Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, colleges and universities across the country had to close down their campuses and shift students to online classes. While this was one of the best ways to keep students safe, it was not entirely good news for students in graduating classes. The closures meant students weren’t able to go to their graduation ceremony. The class of 2020 would be robbed of an event that to many is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Tassel Depot stands with the class of 2020 and has happily supported graduates to make this time in their life as special as possible. Whether that’s supplying them with graduation accessories for their DIY graduation ceremonies at home or hosting our own graduation cap design contest on Instagram, we have been maintaining the celebratory spirit.
That is why we are so proud to have played a part in the T-Mobile Toss Your Cap challenge campaign in support of the class of 2020! At the end of May, T-Mobile launched a social media campaign that gave graduates a symbolic send-off and the opportunity to do their own cap toss using graduation caps topped off with bright magenta tassels from Tassel Depot.
"The class of 2020 is uniquely poised for greatness as the first virtually graduating class, so we're eager to partner with iHeartMedia and provide a few words of empowerment to give students a well-deserved celebration, in an equally unprecedented way.To honor their achievement and help keep tradition alive in these trying times, the Un-carrier is bringing everyone together on TikTok to proudly toss those caps high AND support fellow students through an incredible cause. Cheers to the class of 2020!" – Mike Sievert, CEO of T-Mobile 1
Celebrities Kicked Off The Event
Chart-topping artists Kesha and DJ Khaled were brought in to launch the T-Mobile cap toss challenge on TikTok.2 To participate in the challenge, graduates would post a video on TikTok of themselves tossing their graduation caps with the hashtag #TossYourCap. The song accompanying the challenge would be DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win” featuring feat. T-Pain. Participants would simply have to find the song “#TossYourCap w/ T-Mobile - “All I Do Is Win (feat. T-Pain)” - DJ Khaled” on TikTok and click “use this sound” for their own video.
In addition to pop stars, T-Mobile brought in a few well-known influencers to help lead the TikTok toss your cap challenge. Influencers were mailed kits that included black caps and tassels from Tassel Depot. The tassel was a bright magenta color, mirroring T-Mobile’s brand colors, and featured a gold 2020 year date tag.
Popular TikTok personalities like Dixie D'Amelio (sister to famous dancer Charli D'Amelio) and Maggie Thurmon as well as actress Chloe Lukasiak tossed their own caps, all adorned with magenta graduation tassels from Tassel Depot!
Money Raised for a Good Cause
For every TikTok video posted with the #TossYourCap hashtag, T-Mobile would donate $5 each to Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG). This state-based national non-profit organization works to support young people and help them reach economic and academic success. The campaign was a success with the challenge raising over $200,000 for Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG)!
